I’ve been going to Arukas for over a year now and can honestly say I do not trust anyone else with my hair. Nana has taken such good care of me from day one. Shop is small but feels personable!! Nana gives me a head massage with essential oils and a small back massage too as part of the service.
They used Olaplex for bleaching and coloring, which is a highly recommended product. However, the color they did was completely different from what I expected. I did bleaching twice and dying twice, and sit there for almost 7 hours. None of the color was even close to the picture I showed. I saw recommendation on Red and came to this store, but felt disappointed with it. I have been feeling sad these days and have to post my experience. QAQ
If you're looking for a salon that can handle Asian style hair, this is it. Kaz the manager was extremely friendly for my first visit. When you see different hair techniques that shows they are confident in their skills.
As an Asian male, definitely coming back and would recommend
This is a belated review. I am looking for a stylist to cut my hair, but I am afraid I won’t be back to this salon again. I got a mid-length straight haircut there two years ago. My haircut was unbelievably uneven and choppy when I looked closely as I got home. The stylist offered to fix the bad cut, but it didn’t get much better after she “fixed” it. Honestly, the stylist needed more training in my opinion and the skill level didn’t justify the price at all. I had been to this salon twice for haircut and color before my last visit and had satisfying results. Sadly, I was not able to get the same stylist I liked previously because they had left the salon :-(
I’ve been coming here since February and always love how my hair turns out and get many compliments at work, family and friends 🥰😍 I always recommend Hiro! …
My husband and I got our hair cut here about a week ago. It was really easy to set up an appointment, but I recommend making an appt as early as possible, because they're always busy :) They wash your hair and massage your scalp, and by the end you walk out feeling really refreshed :)
Nanako cut both of our hair. She was super nice and great at recommending what kind of style to get (I just said I wanted something shorter and easy to take care of).
Would definitely recommended coming here :)
I had an appointment for a Japanese Straight Perm with Kaori on Mother's Day and it was hands down the BEST experience I've had at a Salon in Dallas! The salon was clean and my appointment started promptly, and even though I was pretty nervous Kaori was super nice and gentle with my hair. I had been getting straight perms for about 7 years while I lived in Tokyo but I moved back to Dallas and I decided to go "Natural", during the pandemic. I really wanted to straighten my hair again, as its easy to manage and doesn't frizz and it stays straight no matter the humidity or if I get it wet, and styling doesn't take long at all. I'm so glad I found this salon. I am African American, and I have medium shoulder length fine 3C-4C hair, (the front- mid section is wavy, the back has loose curls and the middle has tight spiral curls.) I loved the products used on my hair, the shampoo smelled so good and it wasn't drying, my hair is bouncy and flowy. I have some damaged ends from left over dye but it still looks great. I will for sure be back and regularly!
I just moved from NJ and needed to find a new salon. I had been going to a Japanese salon for the last 8 years with the same stylist so I was happy to find out about Arukas in Plano. (I just find Japanese stylists pay closer attention to detail when it comes to styling and service.) My haircut came out... OK. It's nothing special, but it's also not terrible. I randomly selected a stylist on their website so next time I'll try a different one. The guy (Hiro...?) who washed and cut my hair seemed junior. There was A LOT of hair snagging/pulling during the wash and dry phases that I felt could have been avoided and that's where my expectations started to drop. His techniques didn't seem very advanced either and the end product reflected that. I'll give this place another one or two tries with different stylists before I think about changing salons.
UPDATE: I tried another stylist who was more senior and had a much better experience. I booked another appt with them several months later and strangely someone else was appointed to my haircut without my consent or an explanation even though my intended stylist was in the salon. The new stylist did a decent job, but that doesn’t justify the last minute change. I’m also not sure why I get charged the women’s haircut rate when I basically have a man’s hairstyle and the stylist who cut it was a man. When I called to ask why there is a cost difference, they just said that was how the manager priced it and they aren’t allowed to change it. I’m just not satisfied with that answer. Basically, because I’m a woman, I have to pay $10 more. If that’s standard practice wherever you go, then fine, but I still think that’s sexist. Price should be based on complexity or the experience of the stylist in my opinion.
Overall, the haircut you’ll get here is decent, but because I’ve gotten much better quality in other salons (in NJ) for the same price, this place will always fall short for me. Because of that plus my inconsistent experience here, I’m going to continue my search.
